Joanne Blessing's Easy-To-Follow Policy for Image Use

the reigning philosophy

I am a firm believer that the internet is really just one giant free-image gallery, except in cases of commercial sites. I respect, of course, the property of commercial sites, because they rely on their sites for income, and they're not doing so through a freebie server; they're paying good bucks to have the right to say Don't touch.

Therefore, one of the biggest laughs I get is from sites that use the no-right-click java-script because they're so deathly afraid you might swipe something they worked hard on, and claim credit yourself. But my question is, what can they do about it if you don't give credit? I myself am savvy in how to circumvent the no-right-click option! So you'll never see me using it, because, if I can circumvent it, I know a lot of others can too!

My philosophy is this: if you don't want others to borrow / steal / use your images, don't put them on the internet.

Perhaps I should explain a little better: If you don't want people to "steal" your images and take credit for them, don't put your stuff on a server that offers free sites. Why? Because if you don't pay for the space, then I believe you don't have the right to tell others not to touch. If you want to copyright something, you'd better pay for the legal copyright, and then put your stuff on a site that doesn't give away freebie pages.

So you won't see me putting anything I value up here, because I don't believe that anything I want to keep to myself belongs on this forum. Any and all pictures I have painstakingly drawn (or otherwise created) are not scanned and posted here because not only do I not have a very good scanner, I don't really want my stuff floating around without any sort of trace on it, and I don't condone censorship of the internet.

And, while I do agree that direct-linking isn't very polite--it's using someone else's property without their knowledge and permission, when it's just as simple to right-click and save to a disk--since I'm not paying for the webspace, I don't have the right to demand that you download the item yourself. If I were paying for the bandwidth, then that's another story entirely, because then what you're doing really is the same thing as stealing. But even with freebie sites, it's in extremely bad taste to not download your own copy, because as I said above, it's little better than stealing. My belief is if you want it, you can have a copy of it, but please leave the originals alone. This goes for ALL websites. It's just simple decency and courtesy.

SO! here's the deal! If you want an image, use your right mouse-button (please!) and download your own copy! You can link to my site if you want, or not, I don't care. It's not required. These aren't linkware. You can take these images completely free, no strings attached. All I have done has been to download images from various sites and in some cases play around and nudge them using Adobe PhotoDeluxe Business Edition 1.0. Nothing fancy. I don't give a flying hoo-wah if you decide you want to take full credit. I'd appreciate it if you didn't, because it could get me in trouble (I don't know how, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did somehow reflect on me!), but I really won't care. I don't appreciate people telling me how to run my websites, so I can't in all fairness tell anyone else how to run theirs.

Having said that, allow me to open the door for you! Welcome to my galleries!
